Dear parishioners:
Please know that I am available, by phone, for pastoral emergencies or any other parish-related matters. I've just been issued a new (local) cellphone number. Please feel free to use it, as I will have my phone with me at all times. I will not pick up if I'm in a meeting, or on a pastoral visit, but will return your call as soon as possible. The new number, with confidential voicemail is: 226-345-5085. If you attended church last Sunday, you heard a sermon which included information on this special event. Rev'd Andreas challenged us to purchase twenty (20) tickets for the Bishops' friends dinner. Please consider making a contribution to the ongoing ministry of our bishops. See information below.
The Christmas Tree for our children and family is in the Narthex. The family has 4 children and 2 parents. All with disabilities and/ or limitations. Please bring your gift (new only) with tag attached and unwrapped by December 8th. The gifts for the parents could be wrapped. I'm confident our St. Matthew's family will once again give this family a wonderful Christmas. Thank you very much. Gwen Allsop.
PWRDF Provides Aid After Typhoon Haiyan
November 8, 2013 By Simon Chambers Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines today, causing the evacuation of over 125,000 people, the loss of power to an entire province, and unknown levels of damage to homes, schools and businesses in the area. We do know that very few buildings can withstand the 315 km/h winds that are estimated to have swept Haiyan ashore. PWRDF is responding to the storm by sending an initial grant of $20,000 through the ACT Alliance to provide relief to those affected. ACT will provide food, water, medicine, and hygiene items to affected families in the affected areas. One of the implementing partners of the ACT appeal is the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP), a partner PWRDF has worked with for years on development projects in the area. Donations to those affected will be gratefully accepted: Huron Hunger Fund (please make cheque payable to “The Diocese of Huron” Attention: Philippines Typhoon Relief 190 Queens Ave. London, ON N6A 6H7 519-434-6893 ext 236 for VISA or MC For updated information on this emergency, and other PWRDF information, please visit www.pwrdf.org |
